As a young boy, my main takeaway from any film was the score. Growing up I never had any formal musical training, but I had lots of experience as I benefited from having a particularly musical family. I graduated high school in 2008. Almost immediately I was offered the position as guitarist in the established progressive metal band “What's He Building in There?” and began touring Canada regularly. Between tours I would be instrumental in developing some of the band's new, ground-breaking material. Following a fatal tragedy in 2009, the band's activity dwindled. After a couple more tours, the band disbanded, and most of the new material was shelved except for some live recordings.
Throughout the WHBIT? Years, I had been developing side businesses with the intention of establishing a unique opportunity to be able to fund myself through the earlier stages of a career in music. Following the disbanding of What's He Building in There?, I maintained developing both, my business and my understanding of music and audio through personal learning. In 2015, my business to music dream started becoming a reality. A few low budget scoring projects ended up in my lap, and my musical momentum accelerated.
I now am regularly working on low-budget film scores alongside writing my own music (one particularly new and exciting solo project of mine is titled Striatum, which can be streamed from any online music streaming service). My favourite musical emphasis is dark and emotional writing that fuses orchestral, electronic, and many rock sub-genres in ways that encourages the listener to rethink their ideas of what music should sound like... but I enjoy listening to and writing everything else as well. There is never a moment in waking life where I am not working on or thinking about music.
